Why Service in Your Community is Important

Community service is one of the most important events you can participate in for the good of your community and yourself. It's important because it teaches you about issues in your community and shows how much you care about others. Community service can help the people around you and the environment. If you improve your community, you are improving the place in which you live and the world around you.

Members of the ASPIRA Club have participated in community service projects such as park and sanctuary clean-ups, reading to little kids in daycare, visiting the elderly in nursing homes, creating cards for sick children, sorting hair for Locks of Love and by volunteering for service events at the Palm Beach Zoo.

When you participate in projects like these, it makes you feel good, like you did something special for your community. You realize that we are all part of the same community and that we all need to be involved in taking care of our community so that everyone benefits. Many of us get so busy with school, homework, playing on the computer, watching TV, and hanging out with our friends that we forget there is a big world out there that needs us. Being involved in projects with ASPIRA reminds us that there are people out there with real problems, and that together through service, we can help.
