Pahokee is a multicultural town made up of people from many different countries. Considering it is a very small town it has a very international feel to it. The countries that represent the Pahokee citizens come from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Haiti and the United States. These predominantly 'Latin' based countries offer a distinct flavor to the area that translates within the different foods offered at the local restaurants.
The southern US is represented by the "soul food" like fried chicken, collard greens and black eyed peas. Mexican food such as arroz con pollo, tacos, enchiladas, burritos and tostadas are quite popular in the local eateries. Cuban food like black beans and rice, fried plantains and the famous "Cuban" sandwiches are even offered as school lunches. The spicy taste of the islands is represented by curry goat, oxtail soup, aki with codfish from Jamaica. Of course the tried and true french fries, hot dogs and hamburgers which all are major American staples. With so many delicious foods to eat here in Pahokee there is no need to buy a plane ticket to another country. The next time your family wants to take a road trip stop by the town of Pahokee and taste our flavor you won't go away hungry!
